Setting "default' viewing style

I understand that I can force a viewing style thru gallery settings which removes any user choice.

Can I select to *default* the viewing style one way, eg, "slide show", but still allow the viewer to select something else??

I hope this q. is clear.. I want to have a gallery open in slideshow, but still have the viewing style selectible by users.
