Hunter Estuary Feeding Time

I took these shots the other day. At the Stockton Sandspit, Hunter Estuary, Newcastle , Australia.

This white-faced heron was chomping on this crab.



And then I saw these crabs scurrying around , this is what he is chomping on, i thinks to myself..



I do some research , and I think it is a semaphore crab.

I also saw these lil fellas scurrying around, I think they are soldier crabs.



Shot on a 40D with a 400mm f/5.6.

Those crab images are very nice. The white faced heron is bit too distant for detail but the image has nice composition plus you caught it eating which adds interest.

Cool crab shots! And good grab on the heron, but a closer shot (as always!) would have been nicer.

i tried getting closer to the heron but i sank into the mud!

I think i need some gum boots or a 1.4x

Done that before! Sometimes you can't get any closer no matter what you do.

Nice series. I sometimes think that herons will anything that moves... and some things that don't.
