Online CS3 training

Can anyone recommend some online training?

Some time ago I had found some spots where you could pay on a monthly basis for training and pick and choose which classes to take but, unfortunately, I don't remember the site.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

There are few of them out there.

Scott Kelby training is one of them, but I don't think this is the one that you were thinking of.

The other one looks interesting also. Do either of you recommend one of the two?

I can't imagine anyone using both at once so as to be able to offer you a true side-by-side comparison, but I subscribe to Kelby and the beauty of it is that it offers far-ranging tutorials on things beyond what initially captured your interest -- e.g. I can a wealth of info not only on Lightroom but also on digital photography in general and, more than I could ever digest, on Photoshop. I've explored Lynda, the same may be true there, but the guys doing the tutes in Kelby are the real players in this NAPP space.

Never used any of them. Kelby is a staple in Photoshop tutorials, but Lynda.com has a broader range of classes

    Thanks everyone.

I think I'll check out Kelby and give it a try.

I've got 30 days of Lynda for free, with my purchase of the CS3 suite. It's pretty good, I think. Haven't tried Kelby, though.

I attended a NAPP seminar a couple of months ago and signed up for the online training at Kelby Training. Rather than sign up for one course at $50-70 each, I opted for the annual membership with unlimited use of all training classes they have. Virtually all the major players that you see featured in Photoshop User Magazine are here (e.g. Margulis, Eismann, Kelby, Wilmore, etc).

So far, I am very happy with the quality of the content. Many of the courses have files that you can download to work along (if you want).

Actually Lynda.com has some of the same players including Deke, Chris Orwig, and few more. I used my free subscription after purchasing CS3 and saved several of the videos which I still reference (especially Orwigs stuff).

Although I haven't used Kelby's site, I do like the fact that the site also offers photography classes in addition to post-processing. David Ziser and Moose Peterson would be big draws for me.

Yeah, Ziser's courses were the among the first that I did. Although the site is mostly "All things adobe", it has a nice selection of other stuff. The only thing about the online kelby training is that you don't have the facility to download the training. Watch it as much as you want during the subscription period, but after that ... I guess that's why I still own lots of books and DVD's! I don't always remember everything and need to go back later.

Lynda.com also doesn't have a facility for downloading. I used a plug-in for Firefox that enabled saving streaming video. I can't remember the name of it off-hand but search FF Plug-ins and you should find it. As long as I use the videos only for personal use, I have no qualms about saving them to my hard drive since I already paid for the lesson.

Sounds like both have a lot to offer. I may just sign up for a month on each and give them both a try.

I know that it isn't on-line training, but can I also recommend Kelby's 7-Point System? Some people hate the book while other love it.

For me, it was very useful since the original photos are provided and you are given step by step instructions.

For me, I have gone back to certain lessons.

Thanks Aktse. I'll take a look at it.

You could also start watching the free podcast Photoshop User TV, which comes out weekly, and is around 30min each.

Wow! I just did a search on iTunes and found quite a few Photoshop and Digital Photography podcasts. Downloaded a couple of Photoshop User TV episodes and will check them out.

    Thanks.

    Dave,

There are many podcasts available on iTunes that I subscribe too and have learned a TON on good information. Here's a few that I enjoy:

    Photoshop User TV
Photoshop for Digital Photographers (by Michael Rather)
Lightroom for Digital Photographers (again by Michael Rather)
    Photoshop Killer Tips
    Lightroom Killer Tips
Photoshop Online Video Podcast (with Jan Kabili) .. she's not done anything new since 12-07, but what is posted is good .. IMHO

You may have already found these .. but just in case you didn't .. enjoy!

I have subscribed to Kelby Training ON line and like it quite a bit. Entertaining, informative, and quite worthwhile.

Thanks Kat and Pathfinder. I've signed up for Kelby and have started going through some of the lessons. I also have my iPhone loaded up with quite a few different pod casts.

    I've already learned a lot!

I just recently got the Kelby book "Scott Kelby's 7-Point System for Photoshop CS3." It's tremendously helpful. The lessons are short (so is the book) with lots of repetition. I don't have to learn all of photoshop's functions, just the ones I'll want to use most frequently. clap.gif
