Gulls fighting over salmon

Some fisherman, instead of disposing of the remains of the salmon he cleaned, threw the carcass on the ground near the cleaning station. Here is one of the calmer shots of the gulls screaming, flapping and pecking to get their chance at the salmon remains. They did a pretty good job of disposing of all the flesh too!

Sigh. I was expecting to see some of those winged rats beating up on each other. Instead they seem to be peacefully having a meal. What a disappointment. :cry

    Good pic though.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

    Gull action!
The lunge, the flap of wings jump up to escape being pecked, in the back under the mess sign, two gulls are at standoff, one has foot on the salmon the other has wings ready to flap up to scare the foot on salmon gull, others wait to join the melee next.

    More sedate gulls
A little more sedate, but notice the middle gulls with wings up... they are slipping and sliding off the slanted railing. It's the funniest thing in the world to watch as they try to get their balance! I must remember to take a movie of this! And that's all folks!

It was one of those RARE, very rare clear sunny days at the coast, the light was almost too bright in fact... but I loved every minute of it... and then to have the right timing to be in the right place at the right time to capture this... can't tell you how many times we've used the restrooms at the harbor and I always check around the corner, so to speak, to see what's going on -- first time I saw anything of this magnitude, there were three long strips of salmon, just looking at it was making me hungry :D

I worried about the gulls getting blown out, and they were a little... but I'm happy with these, they were a lot of fun to take too!

I'm sorry now I didn't take a short movie! The sound effects were too much!

It's quite interesting to be able to study them and their antics. Not much was left of the salmon skeleton -- it was picked thoroughly clean! They even played tug of war with some of the longer strips...
