An interesting wedding
When I got the call about this wedding I knew something would be a little less than your traditional formal affair. I happen to be available for the date & time, less than a month away. I met with the bride and her grandmother, and booked the wedding. It is to take place in a small town on the lake, outside at 10am. They want to do the ceremony and then do any posed shots afterward. They plan on only the B&G being dressed up and all the guest casual. After an hour or so at the reception, they plan on changing and going on the boat for a few shots around the lake, for fun.
I leave at 7:45am so I can stop and get a little breakfast and McD's and then get to the location around 9am to do some location scouting, prewedding candids, etc. I arrive at 9am and see the tent with chairs where the ceremony will take place, its in the backyard of their lake trailer. I am relieved because I wasn't looking forward to having to deal with the sun, which is getting pretty strong even though the temperature is not expected to go over 87. There are some less than desireable objects around that will not make the best background for photos while shooting the ceremony. All in all about what I expected, even though I hoped for better conditions. I shot a few shots outside then head inside to find the bride. I get a couple fun shots of her and her mom, etc. Nothing to serious because due to all the potential background of the house (not very attractive) I decide that I will do most after the ceremony (a choice I later come to regret).
#1-3 kinda gives you the scene, not shots that I would show or deliver.

The couple never turned to face each other, they stayed facing the preacher so that dictated that I stay up front because shots from behind would have sucked.

Ok now all those shots so far are the background, etc to what comes next. I have never seen anything like this and it probably not likely I will but it happened and I documented.
First after the cutting of the brides cake, they feed each other and this is where it starts to get interesting.

Now at this point I start thinking that they will go inside and clean up a little and then we will do the rest of the photos. Well a few guests had another idea.

"A photo is like a hamburger. You can get one from McDonalds for $1, one from Chili's for $5, or one from Ruth's Chris for $15. You usually get what you pay for, but don't expect a Ruth's Chris burger at a McDonalds price, if you want that, go cook it yourself." - me

Nice photos! I liked #4 of the chairs the best. Your skin tones are perfect to my eye.

They were pretty laid back in general, she wasn't exactly resisting greatly either.
Thanks
Well never the less we didn't get any formal shots. I got a few of the bride before, but I did spend about 4 hours total there and shot about 600 images. A lot more snapshot type of images that the formals at weddings after they had changed. We went out on the boat on the lake and went to a rock face they climbed up and got a series of them jumping off into the water. She had told me that she wanted to do something on the lake at the first meeting.
I did offer to do an hour session at a location of her choosing to do any formal or posed shots she wanted, because I just kinda felt bad. But after she changed she was in a very good mood and had a great time the rest of the day from her dimeanor, so I don't she was to worried about it, and she gave me a nice tip to boot.
Yep that is definitely the best cake fight I have seen and just had to share it. And the throwing in the lake just added to it.
EXACTLY, it was a trash the dress oh about 10 minutes after the ceremony ended.
Yep I thought the same thing. I need some ideas and will talk to her about it, they get back from their honeymoon tomorrow.
