This is turning out to be the dominant, I believe female, ruby throated hummingibrd. It chases away anything and everything. It has claimed my twisted willow where my feeders are located as its territory. It defends it from other ruby throated hummingbirds, finches, cardinals, bees, wasps, humans that come too close, etc... :D She's got 'tude for sure!

Thanks Mike. They are only in my garden from July to mid-September, early October at the most. They do come through in April, but not in the numbers like now.

Nice photos. I'm envious. Hummer images are some of my favorites to view but we don't have many around up here. Maybe I've just got "greener grass" syndrome ne_nau.gif . Maybe we can swap locations. You can capture the sandies up here and I can visit with the hummers in your garden mwink.gif At any event, thanks for sharing your excellent images.

Thanks but actually I have identified her as a male. Two days ago he flashed a bit of its developing gorget so it has to be a male, juvenile. :D

Very quick....60 mph in a dive! Thanks, I am trying to get more of them feeding from flowers.

Thanks Dan. I understand the "greener grass" syndrome too, but you just have to learn to appreciate what you have and YOU have quite a bit up there where you are. I'm very envious. Texas is pretty good though although it requires a bit of travel around the state. And actually the sandhills will be in south Texas by December for migration so perhaps I could head back down there. It's a lot closer than Alaska. :D

Thanks Dave. I actually think that one of the most aggressive ones is a juvenile male which I had originally identified as a female, but I caught a glimpse of a developing gorget so I think it is male.

Thanks so much Dan. This weekend I am going to try to get more by the flowers. They were all over my butterfly bush today.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Agreed. The sharpest one is the middle one. The other two are admittedly softer than I like for sure. In fact, the last was horribly underexposed. I had to use the RAW image to breathe life back into so to speak so I just feel lucky to have it in a presentable form. :D
