Why remote strobes are useful

The rig is 3 Pocket Wizards (PWII), one for the camera and one for each strobe. In this case I'm using 2x (expensive) SB-800s on manual at 1/64 power in a nightclub. Both had light orange gels wrapped around the OmniBounces diffusers. Even with the diffusers the light is a bit hard and that is okay for this shoot.

If you wonder why people buy extra flashes and remote control devices it is because you can do this in a nightclub with only a little extra gear.

These are uncorrected jpegs shot 2 seconds apart, everything is the same except for the flashes. One is available light and one is with the 2 remote flashes. One flash is lashed to a column in the audience, 10' up, and the other is placed on top of a speaker stack about 7' above the stage level This was the best available positioning. It was not optimal...just best available.

Call me crazy, but I much prefer the image without the flash. It has an intimacy
and a sense of being there, which the flash image doesn't. Granted, it would be
nice if her face was visible in the non-flash image, but I think that this is less of
an infringement than the absolute destruction of the atmosphere, which the
    flash brings about.

Thanks for posting! A good example of what remote flashes can do. Me likes.
