This one was taken yesterday under very overcast skies (they really were as grey and boring as the picture implies).

The full size original looks much better but is too huge to paste here. If you want to see the original, try this link: http://thwack.smugmug.com/photos/3409801-O.jpg

I know I have a similar view of another steam engine from the same place, but I don't have it uploaded yet.

    Another one
This little steam engine was built in 1899 and has been in continuous service. On a steep grade, it reminds you of the storybook train and you want to start chanting, "I think I can, I think I can!". :D

This might make a good place for some of my Jackson pictures (if you don't mind, Thwack, I'll wait for your blessings first). I plan on moving to Lake Tahoe this summer, in the meantime my boyfriend and I get together when/wherever we can. The last time was end of February while he was on a job deploying wireless access points in Jackson. It was the first time I'd gotten to play with my camera, but I was stuck on foot so only got to explore the downtown area.

Roaring Camp is cool. It's about time for us to go back.

Sorry for being slow to reply. I must've dozed off (for a year). :)

Darned day job keeps getting in the way of having fun.

I like the version you posted, Fish. It looks like it was taken in the Fall though instead of in the Spring. The loss of green really changes the season which I never would've expected...

Kind of a cool thing to keep in mind. Thanks.

I like the first train, I have not seen many where the Steam Pistons are vertical not horizontal. Have you any of a Garret Steam Train?

Until your post, I'd never heard of a Garret Steam Train...but Google had. That's one weird looking engine! I found a couple at the bottom of

Hey, I've got pics of that first steam train (not the Garret unfortunately). Yours is great BTW.

Thanks! Roaring Camp is an interesting place to visit...too bad they charge so much for a ride up the hill on their train. Can't really blame them though...it's got to be expensive to keep those things running!
