If the high ISO image quality were as good or better than the recent Nikon models', I would definitely consider getting it since I can really use that capability shooting gymnastics in poorly lit gymnasiums.

Ziggy et. al. what do you think of the announced 50D? I'm seriously thinking of upgrading from my XSi and keeping both.
The Canon 50D is still somewhat of an unknown. The specifications look good but I would recommend waiting for formal reviews before I could recommend it to anyone.
I can highly recommend the Canon 40D and the more I use it the more I appreciate it.
Last Saturday was the first time I trusted the 40D as a primary camera for an event and it did not disappoint me at all. Coupled with both the Canon EF 70-200mm, f2.8L USM (non-IS) for the long shots and the Canon 17-55mm, f2.8 IS USM I was able to cover the event without difficulty and entirely in RAW without feeling constrained by the buffer.
Fill lighting was with the Sigma EF-500 DG Super flash.
While I would normally use my 1D MKII, the 40D was flawless with those lenses.
For processing the 40D files exhibited a very nice combination of broad dynamic range and low noise even at higher ISO.
Lighting conditions ranged from outdoors at sundown through indoors in artificial "aircraft hanger" lighting. I felt in control most of the time and I am pretty pleased with the results.
Its too bad I just got my 40D in November or October so the wife wont let me get a new one quite yet. But it looks prety much exactly like the 40D - she wont notice...she never noticed the 20D that replaced my 10D....

I'll probably upgrade from the 30D and continue to have a XTi as a backup.
I suspect that the IQ will be similar as every Canon recently has been. They have been claiming that it's about a stop quieter than the 40D, so that's very promising.
I'd wait for some tests and reviews before buying the marketing hype though.
I'm not sure going from 12 to 15MP will be a big difference, so I wouldn't upgrade just based on that. For better noise control, dynamic range, tonal gradation, definitely.

My girlfirend didn´t notice the switch from a pentax k10D - 20D i mean..they are both black.and about the same size, and she hates my constantly need of electornic gadgets so she dosn´t have the intrest lookin.
I'm anxiously awaiting a dpreview hands on review of the 50D. If it weren't for the high price tag I expect to see, I'd probably be all over it when it's released. I love my 40D though so I should be plenty ok for a while

My girlfriend barely noticed when I replaced HER Canon 10D with a 20D (so I could IR mod the 10D) I think it was the shutter sound in burst mode that gave it away.

Dpreview has a write up on it but it appears to be NOT a hands on review:
Link <-- link is there but the colour is lousy???

What did Cinderella say when she left the photo shop? "One day my prints will come."
I'd still be careful if I were you. <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/mwink.gif" border="0" alt="" >D

The beauty of it is I even handed her the new camera and she had zero idea!
But given the cost of the new 50D, I wont be able to buy one anyway. :cry

Good looking young man! (must take after his mother!)

Correction: Swedish photographer. I think the article also mentions a Dutch ad agency.
