Terms of Use on iReport.com

Most of us are guilty of just clicking that we "Agree" to the terms of a web site.

I recently signed up for an account on iReport.com. This is a CNN site that allows everyone to submit stories, information and photos. I thought this would be cool. I'm shooting in Austin almost every day and maybe there is another credit for me in the future.

The folks at CNN aren't dummies, especially their legal department so I took great interest in reading the "Terms of Use". You can read it here:
http://www.ireport.com/terms.jspa

Now from section 7 of the terms:

"You agree that if necessary, you have the written consent of each and every identifiable natural person in any submission to use such persons name or likeness in the manner contemplated by iReport.com, and each such person has released you from any liability that may arise in relation to such use;"

Wow. The daily, here in Austin, published hundreds of my pics every week on their website and I don't need to obtain a release from anyone.

I doubt their camera teams do this much if at all given the editorial nature of the work CNN does.

I won't be participating on that website.

Just my 2-cents that you should read the terms of sites where your work might be reused.

Cheers,
David
