I found this character on Glacier Point at Yosemite:

This is Ian408. Bit of a plain sky, but the colors were sure pretty :D

The little Canon SD870, nice quality for a P&S!

After dark, just a little star trails:

Next day, off to Mono Lake. These two shot with IR Modded Canon SD-870, shot in RAW mode with the CHDK.

We went back later at Sunset time, and shot the tufa from the South area. Canon 1Ds Mark III, 24mm TS/E with 10-stop ND on board.

Enjoy (pre-workshop) photography,

    Excellent images Andy. Congrats.

May I ask what approach you take in terms of the 10-stop ND filter? screw on? slide-in?

    Andy,

I like your Mono Lake sunset shot, and while the 10 stop ND filter obviously worked, can you explain why you decided to use it, and how ND filter works to benefit this type of photo?

    Thanks,

    Sam

    Hi Chris, it's a screw-on, B+W is the maker.

Thanks Sam, great questions thumb.gif I like the supreme water-smoothing ability of the 10-stop ND. Mono Lake had a light chop on at sunset time (a bit less than what you see in the infrared shot above, taken at 3pm-ish) .... and the 10-stop ND will smooth that chop beautifully as you can see - what happens is that it forces a long exposure - 25sec in this case. Exif.

That ribbon like road shot really works well in IR.

Nice job with the fg / bg comp on the tufas as well.

Great to meet you as well.

Pretty obvious......after you explain it. :D

Mono lake is awesome, but I have never caught it with a glass smooth surface. I will remember the ND filter next time.

    Thanks

Had fun @ Bodie, too, before we headed to 12000 feet up in the Sierras :) What a cool place. I shot with both the color P&S and the infrared P&S.

That sure is a photogenic side there eh? Looks familiar:

And when I was at a street faire in Los Altos a couple months back someone was selling prints of it :D

Nice shots! I might warm up the foreground in the Yosemite pic just a bit. But maybe that's just me.
