    hs volleyball
Nice bunch of captures. Balls/faces/action etc.

I'm planning on shooting some volleyball this year - our HS starts next wk.
What lens/lenses do you use most often? I'm ordering an 85 1.8 today to go on my d300,& or my d70s with 70-200 on the d300. From reading forums over past yr or two, the 85 1.8 seems to be lens of choice.

I used 3 lenses for this tourney, the 120-300, 80-200, and 85 1.8. In camera, the siggy didn't look good so I gave up on it. Back home, I should have stayed with it. I used the D700 for these pics.

The 85 1.8 and a d300 will be a nice combo. You should get great results at ISO 3200 if you expose properly.

Thanks, John. That's good to hear. I didn't shoot much indoor last year, but plan on doing more this winter since I have that combo. mwink.gif

3 is a nice shot. Looks like the white balance was all over the place though. Did you set a custom balance?

I set a custom WB on a piece of paper, but it didn't do much good as it would change from frame to frame. I sued the ball as a reference if it got too bad in PP. I could clean them up better with more time, but I am feeling lazy.

Just make sure your NR is set off. The camera will automatically do some NR after 800, but the aggresive NR will smooth out faces. It literally looks like a blur tool was applied over the face.
