Hello,

Just discovered this site, and must say I am very impressed with the nice collection of folks and their images. Seems like a great community. Looking forward to joining in.

I thought I'd share a few of my images for c&c. I recently ordered these as fotoflots (highly recommended, btw). Most were shot while I was playing around with a little Canon G6, and you'll see some obvious flaws...now I have a 30D, tripod, nice glass, etc., and am learning more each day.

#3 - "Baja Rust" (Mexico)

#4 - "Lake Buttermere" (England)

My biggest challenge, while touring these parts of the world with family and friends (as a tourist and not a photographer), is frequently being unable to control the time of day we arrive at each spot, how long we stay, etc. As a result, I am often attempting to make the best out of "high noon" shots and the like. I'm sure you have all experienced these constraints. :)

Cheers,
-Chris

These are very lovely shots, Chris. The last two are particularly beautiful as landscapes. I feel your pain when it comes to traveling and getting the right light at the right time. I sometimes wish I could travel for the sole purpose of shooting. But, alas, I'm not a millionaire.

Welcome to dgrin!! I am also a fairly newbie - this site has been great and you really learn a lot from a lot of friendly people. I love your photos, especially the last two. You are so fortunate to be able to travel so extensively, even if it is not for the sole purpose of photography.

Hi Chris, welcome and it's so nice to hear that you find Dgrin a great place so far! wave.gif

Thanks for delurking with a great set. I do understand about being stuck photographing at whatever time you arrive on-site. I think that's why people like shooting IR landscapes, because it doesn't matter if you have flat bright light then.

If you have any questions just let us know. People around here love to help and share. Hope to see more from you, too!

Welcome, Chris! I've only been here a few months also and I learn something every day. Looks like you get to see a lot of wonderful places--I look forward to seeing more of your work with your new camera. BTW, I love that image of Buttermere--it's awesome!

Thanks for joining and sharing your work,

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Much appreciated.

The Buttermere shot was an example of leaving the B&B at 4:30am before my family woke up, driving for an hour or two across the amazing landscapes of the northern English Lakes District, and finally reaching the pristine Lake Buttermere. I think I was the only soul around, and was rewarded for it. My wife and I get 5-6 weeks of vacation a year, so we make the best of it. Travel is our priority.

And yes, Schmoo, the whole IR thing is news to me, just heard about it today while checking out Andy's excellent work. I'll look into it asap.

I also just added 3-stop, 6-stop, and 10-stop ND B+W filters to my B&H wishlist, so I can tell this thing is going to continue to get very expensive, very fast. :)
