RE: JOnes beach.....
Hi Dee! RE: Jones beach......
man does that bring back childhood memories!! My recollection of Jones Beach was sharp shells that HURT my feet when I attempted to get into the water as a kid / teenager living in NYC. When I was all grown up, the sharp shells were still there at Jones.... hurtin my feel with each attempt to get into the water.
And, then there were the jellyfish! lol
BTW: I'm heading to NYC towards the end of May probably but, I'll be staying at a townhouse in the city, not on the island.
RE: Sanibel: yes, there are in fact seashells easily had along the beach. However, it is NOT like it used to be say 7 years ago. Back then, you could find GAZILLIONS of shells on the beach. Noweadays, there are professional shellers who are there quite early harvesting as much as they are allowed by law. Speaking of the law, there's even a law for how many shells and what shells you can and can't grab from the beach..... live ones are against the law to take for example! In addition, the bridge that used to be a buck to cross to Sanible from FT. Myers, is now $3!! That's the price we pay for having so many willing tourists, ready and willing to pay the $3 :-)
Be well,
Markjay

You guys sure get a lot of birds down there!
Do you have any pictures of Sanibel Island? I heard it's a shell lovers paradise and you just pick them up off the beach.
Out here in California it's rare to find any shells on the beach. Can you believe that?
We do see the occasional sand dollar though, that's pretty neat. We get a few shells, but nothing like I remember from Jones Beach.
I'm headed for Long Island May 17 so I should put collecting shells down as one thing I don't want to miss doing.

Oh yes, I remember those, guess I had tougher feet back then cause I always ran around barefoot.
That's a shame about shells on Sanibel Island! And raising the bridge toll, that's one way I hope, not one to get over and a toll to get back.
