Gray Reef Sharks - Fakarava, French Polynesia

Just got back from an amazing trip to French Polynesia a few hours ago. These were taken during a morning drift dive in Fakarava in the Tuamotus. The initial part of the dive is to grab the dead coral on the ocean floor (35 meters) and just watch for several minutes. It's a good time to make sure you look completely uninteresting to sharks! (Actually, they could care less about you so there's nothing to fear.) They mostly hover there letting the strong current pass through their gills.

Sorry for the picture quality -- they were relatively far away so lighting isn't the best and I haven't finished playing with the curves yet. More to come soon!

Thanks! I think I understand what you mean -- I feel much safer being "at their level" in their ocean versus on the surface where it would be harder to see them coming!

Also, thanks for ID'ing the Sixbar Wrasse. I took a shot of one (also in Bora Bora http://www.hypercontrast.com/components/com_expose/expose/img/alb_22/img_1205294100_450_lg.jpg) and had no idea what it was.
