Epson R200 problems

My R200 stopped feeding premium glossy photo paper. It will not grab it and send it through. Normal paper seems to work fine.

I'm not sure what to do. The manual is of little help. I use only Epson papers and inks. I store the paper flat and in the plastic vapor barrier. I have the print settings correct. For obvious reasons I don't want to buy a new printer. The cost involved, plus the fact that printing at home is already expensive enough as it is, I don't need to add to that the price of a new printer.

Any ideas?

I'm not familar with the Epson, but all printers follow pretty much the same basic mechanics. A roller is grabbing the paper. You should be able to see which one. Try cleaning with Isopropol alcohol and see if that works. If not, you may need to get the roller replaced.

One way to tell if the roller is grabbing (as opposed to moving the paper)
is to look at the print for roller marks. To tell if the roller is not picking the
paper up, listen for the tell-tale sound of multiple attempts to grab the
    paper.

From your description, it sounds like the roller is out of alignment or dirty.

The best way is to try and clean the rollers with iso alcohol. Look in the paper
paths as well. Paper generates a surprising amount of crud. Either blow or
    vacuum the paper paths.

    Good luck!

Cleaned the rollers, found no paper gunk in the paths. Still won't load photo paper. Will load normal paper. Time for a new printer? Is this what one can expect from an inexpensive printer?

Think its time for a new printer. The Epson utility program gave me this message:
    Status Description
    Service required

    Actions to take
Parts inside your printer are near the end of their service life. See your printer documentation.

Problem is, nothing in the docs explains what is wrong, what to do, or what to replace. It did however say NOT to use alcohol to clean the printer. Oh well.

Toss it. Ok, wait for the special disposal day.

What are you supposed to clean the rollers with? Soap and water :D

Years ago, when I had to take care of the office printers, the large lasers, the required maintenance was to clean all the rollers every couple months with iso alcohol, even the static discharge one. This prevented having to replace them with kits as often as the manufacturer would like you to have.

iso is quick evaporating and doesn't leave any chemical residue behind that may harm any prints, that's why you use it.

If you can pull regualr paper that has more texture than glossy, than your roller is the issue. Cleaning it was in hope of removing any build up that may have caused the roller to lose it's traction ability.

Time to become a crash test dummy for Epson then, Free printer, free ink and play till it breaks. I would have more interest in the R300 though
