Hi all, just trying to do more panos and have found that the Canon Photostitch I received with an IXUS years ago is rubbish -lots of errors/artefacts

Tried Hugin (free download) and it's too buggy and didn't get the result I wanted.

Tried Calico from kekus software and the demo put watermarks all over it but it appeares to do the best job of the 3 so far

What software are you using and would you recommend it?
I don't want something that I spend ages putting in all the points myself - it has to be somewhat automated too.

Thanks for all advice

Cheers, Jase
p.s. no CS3 recommendations as I can't afford the 1000€ or whatever the huge price is now :rolleyes

mate you must be joking! is that really what they are charging in Suisse?!! Just for photoshop? or are you talking about the entire CS3 suite (that would almost make sense)? Are you a student or educator? $200usd this way, well worth it.

Shame, CS3 photomerge is bloody brilliant and easy - just select your files and let it run. In CS2 I would have to patch and clone after the merging, not anymore.

Sorry, I've never used anything else for pano. ne_nau.gif

Well price I find from a reliable online shop (they do have a bricks and mortar shop too) is Photoshop CS3 full version 1'143CHF (about 1'000USD) so it's not quite 1'000Euro but not so far off ne_nau.gif

The Photoshop CS3 Extended full version well that's 1'768CHF (which is more than 1000Euro)

So yeah it's stupid pricing and I'll be buggered if I'm paying 1'143chf just for photoshop CS3 rolleyes1.gif rather spend it on some glass!

Thanks for the reply though thumb.gif

p.s. of that was a cheap shop too - normally CS3 full version _IS_ 1'000Euro *shaking head*

That's insane. In the US (where I'm from, Brissy is just temporary), you can buy the full CS3 suite - illustrator, etc - for about $1000usd, and that's retail. Almost half at academic cost. Oh the mighty Euro.

Anyway, back on topic... if you do find some good alternative pano stitching software, do post your results! thumb.gif

Duuude, Where can you find CS3 for $200....this is full version your talking of the UPGRADE.....Academic Superstore is only showing the Extended versions($300) or upgrades($200).....if there is a legal full version for $200 I am interested.....or I amy have to go the way of the Russian Federation for a full version for.........oh.....say........$45 download.....
I know I got one heck of a deal on CS outside of Praha in 03....but it would not let me register as I was out of the territory it was to be used in...but it did auto update with out a prob..........

I've been using PT Gui for the last couple of years and it just keeps getting better and better. http://ptgui.com they have a standard version and a pro version that handles hdr's

They give you free updates which is handy as they seem to have a new version every couple of months.

Actually I'm stiching a 360 degrees, 72 photo, bracketed, handheld on the top of a mountain Pano at the moment. (45mm on a Canon 5D)

the source tif's are 16bit and the output is a tone mapped 16bit tif. at 33,000 pixels wide it likes a lot of ram and disk but handles it with ease.

If you don't want to use photoshop it's your best bet as it's blending and exposure compensation is top notch.
