I rented the 70-200 2.8 non IS for this, and a tad on the wedding from Friday.
Erin emailed me first asking to be my model for me to practice portraits. So hopefully I am progressing better!

CCs are welcome!

I put in 23 photos and numbered them, Scott!! See I am trying to post less in a single post!! :roflThese two were a blast to work with! They were very helpful and quite chatty! I.. though kept them together for most of the shots..

Please C&C them! or just call me Nikolai the 2nd. :wink:rofl

Very nice overall, I would have to agree #18, your third attempt at high key definitely was my favorite of the set, it looks like it should be a website header! My only critique, which I almost feel I'm not qualified to give but I will anyways, is that I find the pictures turn out better without as much direct sunlight. When I do portraits I typically will look for somewhere shaded to reduce the harsh shadows and highlights to get a more even and natural shadowing. There are sometimes where I think having the hard light is a cool effect but in general I try to avoid it. But again a wonderful second set of portraiture, you've got a great eye and the pictures will only get better as you do more of these portraitsthumb.gif!

#9 it's not so much that the light is too strong, but you could have tilted her head towards him to achieve a Rembrandt lighting effect. As it is, the shadow from her nose is too strong cutting through her mouth.
I like the different poses and compositions you have in all of them. Only other nit I can point out is the white pole in #22 draws my eye and I didn't notice there were people in it at first. I like 3, 5 and 6 the most.

    Thanks for the C&Cs!

Yeah, everyone told me from books to other dgrinners, that direct sunlight isn't good for portraits and I keep doing that! eep!

Is the pole in #22 distracting? I didn't even notice the pole there till you mentioned it...

It's probably just me. It's not a big deal though. Probably because of the way I scrolled into the picture I saw it first.

I assume these two are a couple??? (or at least portraying a couple for the sake of your portraiture?)

In almost every frame, they are too far apart from each other to convey the message of love (even friendship), in my opinion. I recommend getting their heads and bodies much closer together...actually touching.

For example, even in #6 where they are physically closer to each other than most other frames, it would be even better had she been snuggled right up to him, literally closing the background gap between them....complete with their heads touching.
