I am one of the few who like clipped subject edges that brings subject closer and more personal.

Great shots! I have done some MX stuff - but always put the camera away when its getting dark. Can you explain some of the tech specs for the flash? I look at these shots and I think its time for me to get over my fear of flash useage!!!rolleyes1.gif

    Thanks for the compliments guys.

BCS guy, I'm not sure what your asking about my flash specs. The pics at dusk were taken using:

    ISO 400
    F/2.8 aperture
    1/640 exposure
    35mm focal length
Using a Nikon D300 with an SB 600 flash
I think I had bumped the camera's exposure to +1

My flash automatically adjusts for my focal length. So, it's really pretty much just point and shoot once you find the right exposure. I angle my flash up about 30 degrees.

Shooting MX at night really isn't too fun for me once it gets totally dark outside. It's really hard for your autofocus to work when they are flying by you. One thing I've found that works is finding a spot that you like get the focus right then, lock it in. That way your camera isn't trying to focus everytime because so many times the flash won't fire because the camera wasn't able to focus. It's really something that you've just got to get your hands dirty with and experiment.

    Good luck
