Had the chance to get out yesterday on a boat, after being iced in for a few weeks. These guys were great, they didn't really care that I was about 15ft from them. First three are Blue eyed shags and the last is a giant petrol.

Those shags are cool! (literally and figuratively!):D

Some eye contact would be great...of course shooting from a boat ain't easy.

I just flipped through your blog -- what an incredible experience you must be having! How did you end up in the land way down under!? (Sorry if it's explained in more detail in your blog). We were only cruising there for a few days, so didn't have to deal with the difficulties you must be experiencing.

I really like the blue-eyed shags though (especially your the third one). Mine came out about the same, but the first mate of our vessel had this big giant zoom on his SLR and shared this portrait with all the passengers. I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I like his picture so much that I just have to share it. Please keep the posts coming! I've got to figure out a way to make it back down there and stay longer!

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

That's a pretty cool head shot.

The cool part about this job is I've just signed up to come back down next year, thanks to budget cuts I shouldn't be too busy so I'll be able to hang with science people more.

As for now, the penguins are coming back soon, so I hope to get some good photo ops with them.

Very interesting seeing stuff from the other arctic. Unusual birds down that way. By the way, we're done with the sun for this year and are sending it your way now :D
