The Wife and I did a short weekend camping trip to the eastern Grand Canyon... This place is a meca for white water rafters and kayakers... Got some fairly decent shots of the second largest single span bridge in the world as well as some odd things and a ghost railroad town...

We started at the bridge, forest service welcome center... then we hiked along the river, scrambling over rocks to get the perfect shot from the river...

Road side attraction, The Mystery Hole! This place was a trip... tacky to the max! with black lights and the like... the room in the hole is situated so you feel totally off balance... no cameras allowed inside. :cry

We explored the abandoned railroad town of Thurmond extensively... here are a few of the shots I have processed so far... first a sot of an old BW which gives a time line of the town's history...

The park service is doing a wonderful job in preserving and restoring some of the old buildings...

Great series. The base jumping is a cool thing to watch. I bungee jumped the bridge many years ago when it was all the rage. WV is really one of the most beautiful areas for scenery photographers.

Great series!! I actually went to Thurmond and the New River area in August. The old "ghost town" was very cool, but sadly, my one year old just wasn't into looking around. Now I see some of the great things I missed. It also poured down rain, so we never did get to the bridge. Maybe next time... Thanks for sharing!

Great shots of an area I love.
I grew up a couple hours south of Fayetteville and have crossed the NRG Bridge countless times (went to WVU for 4 years). Whitewater rafting is so much fun I can't describe it. Hopefully we will go back next fall.

I've never been to Thurmond but it looks quite interesting.

Thanks again for sharing these spectacular shots.

The bank ones are really neat. If I saw that alien when it was halfway dark I'd probably have a coronary, since if aliens are going to land, it will be in the middle of nowhere, such as West Virginia, right?
