Tofino Stellar Sea Lions

On a recent family vacation, we went whale watching!!! Saw a solitary grey whale (well a small portion of one), but the highlight for me was getting fairly close to these stellar sea lions. These shots are the 1dMKIIN with the 300mmf4, handheld from a boat rocking on 3m swells!!!!

Thanks, Stephen. I had seen them in San Fran before, but not ever in such a wild environment. I was quite ecstatic about it!

Andrew and Harry - Thanks! That boat was rocking! I was up top, along with my daughter and her friend at that point. My son and husband were down - inside and trying not to be sick. I asked the captain to 'stop' so I could get my camera. He thought I was nuts cuz stopping meant rocking! (and others besides my son were green!) When I came back with my kit, I think he understood why, and took several slow loops around the rock. He is holding a 'contest' for photos taken on his tour -> he gets to use the photo for advertising and in return you 'win' a coffee mug. I've never won anything, so maybe I will enter!

I love sea lions because only they can make rocks look comfortable. Great series.
