TC Question

Hi Guys,

I have the Nikkor 70-300 VR lens that I absolutely love but Nikon says it's not compatible with any TC lens. I'm just wondering why that would be. Is is the AF, or the VR? If I were to turn them off would a TC work? Not a big deal but I"m just wondering.

Thanks.

In short, the TCs are made for certain primes and pro-level zooms. These big lenses have a recessed back glass so the TCs fit without touching the back glass element and are specifically made to maintain autofocus and metering. Your zoom and other consumer-grade lenses are not built this way, as their priority is being lightweight and compact, so they are not as recessed as the larger, more expensive lenses. Thus, the TC won't even fit, much less work properly.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks Bob ... that explains it well enough. I was hoping there may be a work around but I guess that's out of the question. Oh well.

    Thanks again.
