Santa Ana Zoo that is (small, very) but close to me and along with my trusty FZ20+TCON14B and plenty of tips and inspiration from DGrinners, like Troy, Jeff, Harry, Steve and et al :thumb.

Now if you don't care for em no Dgrinners were at fault it's all on me :D
Now if you do likem then please give my forum compadres 2:thumbs and a dbl snap :lol3

So here goes:
Mr. Eagle to you :D

20833708-M.jpg

20833954-M.jpg

this is not a crop of above image. It is digital ZOOOOMMMM :D

20834133-M.jpg

Lets move on now to the Monkeys:
My best shot here I think is also my worst for hiding zoo effects :cry but love the expression

20834175-M.jpg

Got lucky here hiding zoo stuff, lucky too cause they gave some looks :D Kept yelling at them, "Yo Monkey, give me something baby to shoot, not just your BUTTS" :lol3

20833913-M.jpg

20833649-M.jpg

They got an aviary with frogs, turtles, birds, etc. Can't really say I saw much, bad time of day :cry so I had to be happy with just the lilly and no frog :D

20833821-M.jpg

We end our short Zoo trip with another bird and the knowledge I need to go back and try to improve :lol3 :thumb

20834084-M.jpg

All shots FZ20+Tcon14b, shutter pirority -2/3 to - 1 1/3 ev (really bad light, YUCK) around 2pm !! :huh

Ok Ben thats quite enough from you. :nono I can't speak for everyone but I'm sick of your lousy cheap prosumer camera getting shots that are just as good and many times better than those of us with expensive DSLRs and lenses. I mean its just not fair. If it happens again I'm calling your wife and their won't be any D2HS for you. I'm serious now. :rambo

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Exactly! I mean -- I don't know how many times I've told folks to "ignore digital zoom -- it sucks" -- and here this person has the gall to display a fantastic photo "digital zoomed".

Shoot bfjr, I thought I posted in this thread last night. I must have hit preview instead of submit. Oh well.

Anywise great shots the Santa Ana Zoo is not an easy zoo to shoot, lots of tight mesh cages that I always seem to have difficulty defocusing. I can hardly ever find the right distance from the mesh there.

So I was there last Sunday late in the afternoon and the Zoo keeper was feeding some of the different critters and giving little talks about them as she went. The crowds as always were small but she had a nice little group following her around and she was doing a great job of educating them as they went.

Of course small zoos like this are always facing funding challenges, the Avairy is currently bird free until they can raise the money to replace the netting, so I bought a Membership for the wife and I ($40.00 for both) which is a bargin for a year if you plan to go back more then a couple times and if not well maybe it will help them get the netting so we can have an open avairy there again.

So maybe we will run into each other there sometime. Love your shots, I think your prosumer out did my D70 and expensive glass here. If you want to see them I have a handful of shots from the SA Zoo at My SmugMug

    Hi ya Bobby

100% on everything you said! I saw the holes in the mesh and bought a membership as well, feel the same way. If these animals have to be in a Zoo so we can see them and they continue to survive only in this way, I have no problem helping pay the bill thumb.gif.

Visited your gallery and sure enough theres my "Eagle" :D, I guess he's more well known then I thought. Be nice if we could go shoot together. It be nice too if they let us photog types in when the light was better, but then they'd have to pay the help, kinda a Catch22.

Glad you liked, thanks for commenting thumb.gif
