#8 weathered.

I haven't been shooting much lately, but I did get an old barn with some really bad overcast skies.

Did I go to far?
I didn't even see the truck until I uploaded the shot to my Smugmug account.

I did 90% of the change in camera RAW, on a JPG file.:wink

Nice weathered barn Dave. I personally think it is over saturated, and I would play with the crop to get it off center. Perhaps you can clone out the truck as well. Lot's of potential.

Nice to see you up and about Dave. I agree that it might be a bit too saturated...but the contrast makes it pop! Might do to crop just a bit of the bottom and the truck out...to off center the lovely barn.

I think I'm I'm going to have to go a different route.
I'm just not real happy with what's coming out of this shot.
There are others in the challenge that are better already.
I'm working this way to much. So much that it's looking like a bad HDR.

The last straw.

personally i think you decision for (over)sharpening is not working for this photo. I think softening it up will add effect and mystery to the barn. maybe like a vintage shot but more mysterious?

I've tried quite a few variations of this shot, and it just doesn't have it.
I have one other idea in my head, I'll give that a go soon.

I took a shot at making some adjustments but I didn't have enough resolution. Hope you don't mind.

I don't mind at all.

This shot was taken on a day when it rained on and off just about all day.
When it wasn't raining, there was a lot of haze or mist in the air.
Because of this, without basically tearing this shot apart board by board, it's not
going to compete with what's in the challenge.

I think it can be made better, I think your rendition is better than what I did,
but I just took this shot on the wrong day, at the wrong time.

I should have a new pic up tomorrow at some time for you folks to pick apart.:D

Finally got to take my shot today.
I think it's OK, but probably not great.

Shot it in Monochrome, added Diffused Glow, a Gradient Map layer for more contrast, added noise, ran a sepia filter, then converted to black and white again. This step helped "even out" the shot. I don't know
how, but to me it did.

What do think?
And yes, these are a pair of my old workboots.
It's tough to get rid of a pair of comfortable shoes.

At least you're getting back into it.... I'm still working my way back into the rhythm of taking pictures.

Your boots shot is a better candidate than the barn but I've seen some of your other stuff and I think you can do better! The boots picture just has too much white background and the stool being white doesn't really stand out but at the same time it detracts enough from the subject of the boots. Bottom line is that it doesn't really say "weathered" to me. I'm not sure how important this is for the judging though.
