Phil - the BG in the last shot is a fuchsia flower - I was doing some dewdrop refractions using it when I spotted the dance fly.

Might have to rename that last shot as The Disco Dance Fly
Man that's a colourful background in that shot.
I like the head shape of the dolichopid fly.
The first Bark Fly looks interesting, are the two the same kind,
one younger than the other? or different species??

Skippy- like the "disco dance fly" . No the bark flies are different species. I'd guess I get about 10 different species of these in the garden but think there are around 30 species in the UK.

Once again a fantastic series Brian and always a pleasure to look at your shots. By the way I have finally succeeded and started to shoot manual mode so things are really looking up. It has been a long damned haul but I am slowly getting there.
Regards
Bob
Thanks Bob - manual mode/flash is really the only way with the MPE-65.

Admirable, as per usual.
Thanks for the comments
Most of these shots were fairly high magnification and will always have limited DOF
