Here are a few faves from the wedding over the weekend. You guys might remember this couple's engagement session earlier this summer. These are my first images edited on my new 24" iMac, so I *hope* the PP looks better than my images in the past! It's not been calibrated yet, but I can already tell a HUGE difference from my seemingly tiny laptop.

7. I'm sooooo mad I cut off the right girl's face. Might be able to blend with another similar image, but the energy in this one is far better than others in the series. Curious what you guys think.

Love the light / colors / poses in all of them, you did a great job!!
Love, love, love #3, 4, 7, & 12 ... only one minor comment ... I would clone out the cars in #6, other than that
2,4 & 9 are standing out for me. Nicely done.

Thanks Angie!! I totally agree on #6...definitely in order. I haven't even had time to install CS3 on my new Mac....my install disc/license is Windows only! :cry

Yeah, no processing is the new processing, eh? I didn't mean to convert so many to BW, but the warm colors of the setting and fair complexion of the bride coverts soooo nicely to BW. Glad you agree!
I am very happy to hear your take on the WA shot. Sometimes flaws are endearing, and other times, they are called...mistakes! It's a tough line to toe.
Glad you liked 4. The skintones look funny to me now on my POS work monitor.
Thanks for commenting, Dave!!! I swear I haven't been copying your gear lineup...but you can think that if you want.
So, what are you buying next?

Thanks!!! It was total luck that the shot didn't end up rated R

Whew!!! I am really proud of that shot, they are usually my worst (going from ambient back to flash in a very rushed 20 second time frame) so I *really* appreciate your comment...and of course, your previous wisdom in this forum on the correct way to gel! clapthumb

1. I like this. The only thing I'd do is add a bit of a vignette to reduce the impact of the girl bottom left and the trash top right.
2 & 3 - I much prefer the warm BW of 2 over 3. A lot of brides seem to choose those flowers that look like sticks of celery.
4. Nice shot of the guys. Their faces are a little over exposed, but you should be able to fix it.
6. Nice backlighting from the sun.
7. Like you say it's a shame about the girl on the end. I like the shot though.
8. Nice moment. I'd like to see a little more detail in the black jackets on your BWs.
12. Good catch - both you and her
Cheers!

Its too bad you cut the girl off, its still a great shot though lots of excitement and energy. my suggestion would be to crop a bit off the other side so there's no dead space at all, to show thats just all you could have fit in the frame(does that make sense?) plus it would even the photo out a bit more.
Love the processing as well, Black and whites are way less distracting.
#12 is just priceless!
er... bad luck? how 'bout the one after it? Just kidding, nice set of pics for sure, I like the colors and perspective of #4 the guys looking over the railing.

You always seem to find a way to make this look so easy.
I checked your blog this morning...and am commenting here on the blog shots...in order from top to bottom as one through....whatever.
1-THis is a cool mirror shot. THe blue is a nice change from the typical warmth of photos of this type. I like the angle...are you standing on a toilet?
2-I like the sense of motion here...and again...the fly-on-the-wall angle. I think a pj stly BW would be an improvement
3-gorgeous. Looks like windowlight....and I like how you let the veil and dress light up into nothingness.
4-I try VERY hard to make a point of capturing Father and bride before they make their entrance. THIS is what I am after....though I have NEVER caught anything this intimate. It's awesome. Scott(?) snagged one beautiful moment for sure.
5-The watermark is killin me! I really wanna see what is in the aisle!! I like this perspective. What lens? It really shows off the room and its posts and beams. Daylight plus incandescent....nice balance.
6-Another perfectly timed shot.
7-Now we have three light sources eh? Again the wb is nice, and the balancing act with all three sources looks great. I hope any advice I have given you has steered you in the right direction. Oh....and now I see...its bucketfulls of petals in the aisles. Good grief!!! The wires...or whatever that is in the ceiling surely detract from the photo (not that you could avoid it), they should do something about that.
8-You say you like it, and I do too. I might try going with the flow here....that is....crop in from the left ...into the guy there...but leave his face whole. Yes you cut the girl in two. Make it look purposeful.....worth a try!
9-Crazy perspective. I'm on to you now. This is definately NOT the 17-55....right?
10-They are a very attractive couple. I agree on getting rid of the cars and people in the BG. I like the warm backlighting.
11-This reminds me of another of your older shots....against a huge tree I think.....anyway...its a portfolio worthy shot, and I love your BW conversions. Mine never look so snappy and clean.
12-13 both are fine examples of moment catching. The BW really sets them off in pj style!
14 What a gorgeous family. The flash balance and color with the ambient is as perfect as one could expect. Nice
15-I know she didn't! See......now here is where things woulda got really ugly for me. I have gotten into the habit of lying on the floor for bouqet tosses. Just so ya know!
What I think-
- You walked into a butchershop of mixed ambient lighting and came away with consistant color and exposure.
- Your interior shots look better than what they used for advertisment on their website. (hint hint)
- You make it look simple, but we know better.

Thanks Paul! I assume that is a heart, although the 3 kind of looks like a derriere, and given the photo, maybe you meant that! <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/rolleyes1.gif" border="0" alt="" >

Good suggestion. I've been trying to get away from gratutitous vignetting but I think you're correct in that this image would benefit.
I included both hoping to hear opinions, I think for this setting I agree with you on the warm BW. I do not understand the flowers any more than you do. I was sort of at a loss on how to instruct her to hold them.
I'm definitely going to fix that girl one way or another. I like the shot way too much!
guilty as charged!....tuxes take a backseat to skin and dress in the exposure priority line. Although in the original color out of camera, the blacks aren't plugged. However, in BW, I've found when the dress isn't blown, and skin is light enough to not look "dark", if the blacks aren't reeeeally black, the entire image lacks contrast. How do you avoid this either in camera or in post?
Thanks, David! I am pretty stoked about that shot.
I am very inspired by your work so I greatly appreciate your taking the time to comment! Thanks so much!

Thanks CJ!! I definitely think you are right, a crop is in order if I can't find a better frame to swap.
I don't know why but as much as I like a lot of this set in color, and I've been working really hard not to have to "save" photos by going BW, I feel like a lot of this set whether it's the skintones or the warm lighting look better in BW. Sounds like that makes two of us!

Thanks!! I was actually shooting several feet below the bridge, with the 10-22 so that is definitely cool when you get that opportunity!
