What is best size to download to smug..

:scratch Somewhat confused as to the best size to download here. Some threads say to crop, so say not and just let smug system do the math.. Therefore,
from a 12mp camera should I be sending every mega pixel .. Also have found it easier for slide show to automate in CS3 to a specific size thus
having created a slideshow hidden gallery.. What is best size for those
pics to have max. size pic in slide show..

Our system automatically generates web versions from your originals so you are free to upload your high res. originals (which we don't alter in any way). You'll want to make sure the images meet our supported guidelines here - http://www.smugmug.com/help/upload-photos

Also, you can you can adjust your images to dramatically decrease upload times without losing quality. Please see here (especially section 3) for more information on that - http://www.smugmug.com/help/speed

In terms of cropping, that is a personal choice. No matter what dimensions your uploaded images are cropped to, they won't fit all print sizes since prints have different aspect ratios. We have a nifty crop tool built into our cart so that customers can select a crop they would like if the image needs to be cropped based on the print size they are ordering.
