It's gotta be the shadow making it look like that, but it sure does look odd.
Might help if the posted image wasn't so big it doesnt fit on my big monitor even.

Lots of detail for sure, over exposed on the bottom of the moon.

    Good one thumb.gif ... Skippy :D

Thanks for the comments Idlewild and Skippy. It's a waning moon. While the shape isn't as pleasing as a full moon, you get a lot more crater detail in this phase.

Skippy, the bottom of the moon wasn't over-exposed in the actual shot. However I did cause that area to become too hot in post-processing. I'm glad you noticed that! I've reprocessed the shot and fixed it. See if it looks better to you.

    Thanks,

    Thanks, guys.

JGD, the shooting parameters were the same as I mentioned in my other recent moon shot (which I see is now off the front page.)

    Two TC1.4X extenders on a Canon 400mm F5.6. ISO200, F11 (wide open), 1/80s, Canon 40D, LiveView, and a Gitzo tripod with RRS BH-55 head.

    Cheers,
