I am looking at getting a battery grip for my Canon 20D and 40D. Big variance in price among brands. Any suggestions would be appreciated as I recently had a horrible online purchase experience with a grey market lens looking for the "price" Thanks

Second. Canon's grips also function as portrait grips, they have shutter buttons, main wheels and so forth. And they take your existing batteries.

Something to be careful of ... I'm not certain, but I don't believe the BG-E2 is compatible with the 40D or that the BG-E2n is compatible with the 20D. Something to research anyway.

I think they fit. I could test the old E2 on my friend's 40D, but he doesn't have any grip so can't test the other way around.
Here's the best link I found on the subject.

I remember reading that BGe2's will work on 20/30/40 while I haven't heard if the BGE2N is backward compatible with the 20/30D though.
I know the newer N version has some sealing that the old grip didn't have if having a sealed rig is a factor for you.
I've bought mine from digitalfotoclub.com without problems for about the lowest price online.
