Did you try a version with more DOF? I think (but would have to see the higher DOF version to verify) that the color and shape of the leaf is sufficient to draw it out and that a shorter DOF isn't necessary and that a higher DOF might work better.
(This is why I end up taking thousands of shots, because I don't know which of every possible permutation I'll end up liking better until I get home and look at it later...).
