Last weekend I was supposed to go to a motorcycle ride in Illinois. My plan was to leave work early friday and head down to where the ride is held. This should have been around a 175 mile/4 hour ride.

I'm easily distracted and it wound up getting dark about halfway to my destination, so I called some friends that were camping nearby and went and stayed with them.

The next morning my friend Ernie spotted this caterpillar on his tent pole.

My friends went to bed and I stayed up a little later playing around with long exposures.

My original plan was to leave early and get down to the motorcycle rally, but there was something inside me that wasn't going to allow that. I was asked by my frieds to ride with them, but I needed to do something different. I called another friend that lives near my camp and went and visited his family.

We decided to go for a motorcycle ride and we looked for a cool old church I has seen pictures of.

We went to a local saloon for a little dinner, unfortunately the place was packed. I saw this sweet 1936 Sokol, a Polish motorcycle.

This building had some cool decorations!

More later, I'm falling asleep!

It looks like you're somewhere near John(TM)'s place with that '36. I know he's quite the collector and he rides them.

I like how your destination changed mid-stream. That's what it's all about thumb.gif

OK, where was I, oh yeah, the saloon. This was in New Diggings Wisconsin, basicly right on the Illinois border. This area is very nice with alot of steep, shallow valleys and beautiful farms. New Diggings is an old mining town and the buildings show it.

There were a boat load of Harleys here and then a bunch on people showed up on horseback. Apparently you can't get a ticket for riding a horse drunk.eek7.gif

One reason for stopping in New Diggings is because I had seen a photo of a cool old church. THe photo I saw was taken by dgrin member klasjm. Jim is a friend of mine and I had to see it.

    Here is Jims photo

I was hoping to see it in the same shape as when Jim visited, but it has recently been restored. This church was built in 1844, so now it will hopefully last another 164 years.

My friend John wanted a good photo of his Harley, so I took one in front of the church. I'm not a fan of Harleys, but its a nice bike if your into that style.

after a nice ride through the country, we ended up back in Galena Illinois and walked around the historic downtown a bit. I love the flood gates!

So at this point, I still really didn't know what my plan was. I guess my plan was to have no plan. I said my goodbyes to my friends and pointed the bike south.

I stopped at a gas station for something to drink and had a nice talk with a guy that was showing off his sweet 1970 Chevy Nova SS, but I was too warm to care about taking photos, I wish I would have. I passed through quite a few small farming towns and eventually ran into some guys that were on the ride that I was supposed to be on.

I eventually made it to the motorcycle rally and ran into a few friends. We hung out, ate, and talked til late at night.

My friend Craig test rode a KTM 950 Super Enduro and couldn't get the grin off his face all night.
