Hi Devin and welcome! Wow what a cool series. You have a good eye and I love the variety of subjects here. Also, night photography is always fun, because what you see is definitely not what you get.

Hi Schmoo - thank you very much, glad you liked them.
I took some night shots last evening. I've always enjoyed star gazing - but never tried to photograph the stars until last night. I was surprised to see how many colors my camera could capture. I used my 1.8f/35mm lens. The colors not only in the stars - but on the trees - as they approach full color this fall. Here are a few examples.
A view of the neighbor's house and sky.
A portrait view of the same scene.
This is the Milky Way galaxy. Notice what appears to be another galaxy on the upper right portion of the photo. I was surprised by the different colors.
Ed, Very cool. I agree, I am amazing by what our cameras can capture at night. Great captures. One trick is to use live view if you have it and maybe a flashlight if needed to focus on the foreground like the tree. Then the overall image will be sharper.

Bgarland- Thanks for the suggestions. I don't have live view but I like the flashlight idea. I put the camera in manual focus mode - because I couldn't get a lock in the auto-focus mode. Looking through the camera eye piece was a pain - since it was on a tripod - facing upwards. Irregardless of this - I couldn't see well enough to even focus manually. I was truly shooting in the dark when it came to focusing - pun intended.

Jim- your picture is awesome. I don't think it dark enough where I live to see that much - even on a moonless night. You used an ISO setting that is too noisy in my camera. I don't bother going beyond ISO 1600. Some day .. I'll invest in a better camera.

Yeah, I was leery about pushing to 3200. I'm sure I would had gotten something at 1600, but I didn't want any movement, so it would had been a little tough I think. Maybe next time I'll try my 20/1.8 Sigma, even though it is a piece of junk lens.
Would love to rent a tracking system for a long exposure, but I'm not a star freak, or someone that's really that interested in getting more.. if I did, I'd find me a big telescope to shoot with.

Everyone In Vegas was Great. I never had a problem with the tripod placement. I used my small shaky E-bay Carbon tripod.

I need to fix the image above since there are ghosts from the filter I was using. I think I will not use a filter for night photography again.

Never done star pics because here in Chicago it's just too bright! I think this was a 15 second exposure on my 16-35 @ 2.8, ISO 3200.
20 sec exposure, long enough for one car to go through in each direction.

Took this last week with the full moon. I wasn't happy with it so I really messed it up in Photomatix
