I was shooting this weekend and my flash on my 1DmkII was loose, taking a quick look I realized it was the hotshoe mount on the camera that was loose. After a quick search online I found it to be a quick and easy repair. I just wanted to pass it along and I was also glad to find out it was not a big deal.

Tools used

Jeweler's screwdrivers, one flat, one phillips.

Method

First, with the camera off, I pulled the main camera battery, just in case I touch any contacts with the screwdriver, to reduce the chances of shorting anything out. I don't know if it could short anything out, but better safe than sorry, I did not want to find out.

The hotshoe has a black clip, if you take the flat head screwdriver, going in as you would to put on the flash, I went under the black clip just before the hole for the pin in flash, slip under and pry up just a bit. It should could loose and slide out, once you do that you will have access to four screws, tighten them, replace the clip properly (look to see how it is mounted on the backside) and you should be good to go.

I would think this will work with many Canon hotshoes.

PS: perform this at your own risk, I am only forwarding my experience. :D
