Max size and speed CF cards my cameras can handle?

I think the rebel (300d) is pretty limited? what about the 20d?

I've got an old 1Gb and a 2Gb... I need more/bigger cards! I'm seeing 4, 8 and 16Gb now with S, S2 And U2 designations and all kinds of different speeds and as I'm a bit out of touch with the CF market (the 2Gb was a big deal when I bought it years ago) I have no idea what any of it means or what will work with what camera.

thanks :)

The 300D can support large cards, I've used a 4 gb in it. It's very slow though - the only reason for buying a faster card for it would be not taking all day to read it later (and you do need a card reader).

20D can benefit from speed to somewhere around 6 MB/s. Again the benefit from cards faster than that is in the reading.

I have not issue to use 2 G and 4 G CF card on the 300D Rebel. The download rate of the 4 G Card from 300D is the same as the 5D when I use the card reader.
No experience to use camera USB to download, just too slow and I don't have the patience to wait for it.

It doesn't matter what was used to write the card when you read it - if you use a card reader then the speed is the reader's or the card's which ever is slower.

The 300D can only manage less than 1 MB/s writing and reading. Pretty much every card and reader on the market is way faster than it is.

    thanks :)

i STARTED OUT WITH A 516mb CF card with first cam and quickly jumped to the 2gb with 2nd cam.....I am now the proud owner of 6 transcend 8gb cards.....I at this time and wit the calcultions I have done do not need to move upto the 32gb cards for some time as I am not shooting in the 20+MP cams...current cams are 8 & 6mp and ready to move up to 10 or 12....so the 8gb cf cards will be great....the last 4 I have bought from New Egg for around $25 each were 133x ....I did not expect a real difference in the writing from buffer to card...but I actually have noticed a great difference..so I may be buying even faster cards in the near future.

I think 8gb would be the largest I would be using...unless as I said before....if I was shooting in the 20+mp cams then yes I would own a few 32gb CF cards......

I have found the Transcend cards to be every bit as reliable as my Lexar cards and a whole lot less expensive.
