Aperture vs PShop file compression

I want to use Aperture’s direct upload to Smugmug. Does the 'quality' slide selector in Aperture's export dialogue (eg, create an exported file 2048 px at quality '8') bear any relationship to the file size/file quality box you get when you saved the file in Photoshop at compression setting '8'? In my rough tests it looks like Aperture is doing very little compression compared to Photoshop. The resulting Aperture file sizes are waaaay larger than PS. Advance thanks to anyone to can help.

Does it bear any relationship? I don't know that Aperture's 10 is exactly like Photoshop's 10, or that 12=12, for example.

For something exported to SmugMug from Aperture, I wouldn't go above 10, or your file will be huge. 8 or 9 is _substantially_ smaller than 10 to 12.
