I am upgrading my d40x to the d90. I also want a low light lens that I can use for all purpose and for portaists. I can get the 50mm 1.4 right now. I can also wait a LONG time a nd get the 85mm 1.4. They are both great lenses from all the reviews I read.

If you have both..which one do you typically use the most? What do you like about each? Am I right in thinking the 50mm is more versatile but the 85mm is probably a better bet for portraits?

And if the new nikkor AF_S 50mm 1.4 reviews super well then that will leave me in a bigger quandry.

Qarik, I own both and of the two I use the 85mm 90% of the time. I use it for sports and for portraits. I prefer the 85 because it give you a little more space between you and the subject. I usually use the 50mm at basketball games if I am under the net. If I had a choice between one or the other it would ALWAYS be the 85mm. They are both great lens.
