DPReview has a very interesting interview with a Canon honcho. Kudos to them for asking several pointed questions about the wisdom of ever-increasing pixel counts at the expense of quality. :thumb

    Yeah,
Unfortunately, he was about as to the point as a politician.
From what I gather, the G series will probably have the same small sensor and more MP's for more noise and smearing effect from the noise reduction.
Smart. They should look at the Panasonic LX3. Less MP, bigger sensor, less noise.

Only thing I got from the dslr questions is that the xxD series will not go full frame and EF-S lenses/cropped sensors will continue. Didn't get anything more IMO.

I thought some of it was interesting...

    - he actually said for the record the 5dm2 has better image quality than the 1dsm3
    - they couldn't fit all the cross-sensor AF points in the 5dm2
    - the 50d successor will have video capture
    - teases new big developments in compacts next year
    - new digic4 sensor was designed for video/live view w/o heating problems
    - AF performance in live view is likely to be better than just contrast detect shortly
    - they may offer options on the new G - one with higher MP's and one with a different sensor
