Several views on the same account

Looking for the best way to separate personal (though not necesserely private,) and public galleries, I'm thinking about being able to have two (or more) separate "views" for two (or more) groups of users, both to be able to enter simple url (such as user1.smugmug.com and user2.smugmug.com), and see the same first page normally, but with different categories presented.
I'm not talking about two smugmug accounts as both views would be looking on the same set of photos.
Shared groups are not exactly a solution due to their impossible-to-type URLs and no first page, though the idea above might easely be an extention of the shared groups' functionality...

Any thoughts?

Currently, no. Another user including me have inquired on a way to do something like this, but it doesn't look like it.

You can see what Laurie did (landrum) with her site. By using a Professional and Personal category, she effectively separates the two, then provides links in her bio indicating as such.

maybe SM would be so kinda as to offer us a *DISCOUNT* on a secound account for this use? I would gladly pay say an extra $50/year for a secound pro account so that I can split my photo's.

Obviously, you can get a $15 discount by using your own coupon code. This, just as obviously, only applies to the first year, I'm afraid.

But a 50% discount is pretty dang steep, given that many of our costs would remain the same. In other words, we'd lose money on that account.

We love our dgrinners, but we are a business. :) We take our responsibility to stay in business and keep your photos safe very seriously.

Don, in cases like mine I don't think you would be loosing money, it would be the same number of photo's, I would just split it between a personal and a biz site, why would that cost you more? Same amount of disk space etc, maybe you can look into the feasibility of having two tied accounts with a signle usage limit? Something that would amount to two front ends for one person, but sadly I doubt that it would be worth the time investment for you. Or maybe you could come up with some way to have a secound front door on the same site which is accessed via a differant nickname or personal host name. As in Pics.jamesjweg.com and www.jamesjweg.com haveing two differant front ends on the same account, However as nice as that would be I would rather see the abbility to point more than one name to my site first.

This is why I explicitly mentioned that this is not about separate accounts, but separate "views" onto the same account. Is it that technically difficult to enable multiple entry points? Smugmug is a business first, and such a unique feature ("virtual web sites") would be a nice selling point, IMHO...

Here's one way to enable two separate accounts from one smugmug account.

    1. establish two home pages that live on a remote server
    2. Use different main categories for each account
    3. Disable the first cookie trail that says user's home, and replace it with a link back to your homepage (and whatever text you want)
Done this way, I think it would be possible to nest as many "accounts" within one actual account with no overlap.

I think this would be possible with my level 2 hosting plan.

    What do you think?
