On a new nikon like the d90, will an AF-S lens focus faster then than AF lens? I am thinking in particular the 50mm 1.4 AF-S lens that is due is in Dec vs currern AF version.

My google research shows conflicting answers.

Nikon AF-S, like Canon USM and Sigma HSM, simply implies that the lens has a focus motor in the lens. The motor size, speed and torque can vary by lens application and manufacturer specification. In other words, AF-S does not always mean fastest. There is some anecdotal evidence that the higher end Nikon cameras have a more powerful AF motor than the mid-tier Nikon cameras. I have no idea what motor technology exists in the Nikon D90 so I don't believe there is a reasonable answer to your question.
