Welcome to the forum glennp !

This is a very good photo for someone starting out.

    -exposure is right on
    -colors are nice and natural
    -good contrast

The only nit about the photo is watch your corners for stray objects
like the dark branches top right corner. Some buildings are slanted, this could
be barrel distortion that wide angle lens produce, this happens around 18mm
and lower. It is NOT a flaw in the lens. Other than that great job on this photo.
    You will learn alot here.

    Hi glennp!

Not a bad shot that. I like the contrast between the park and buildings, nice composition. I might crop a slice off the bottom or clone out the whatsit in the water, but you do what you want :D

Barrel distortion is a lens flaw, wide-angle perspective distortion is not.

I noticed the leaning towers as well. It doesn't ruin the picture, but is something you may want to take into consideration.

    Welcome to DG!thumb.gif

You will learn much from this community.

I like the shot. Much better than the first picture I posted on Dgrin.

The curve along the edge of the water is very nice.

I would think this is a spot you could revisit many times in the year and get something very different and workable. Stormy, night, fall, winter, etc.

    peace.

Oops my bad. You are right, I sould have said is your lens is not broken
and there is no need to return it or get it repaired.

Hey, Glenn. Welcome to DGrin. Great first post. Of course, you are not new to photography, just a bit new to landscapes. Right?

Correct Jeff, Not new to photography just new to landscape photography.

I want to thank all who have commented on my pic. I went out at lunch today and re-shot the photo. I stepped more to the left to get rid of the duck float and tree branches in the upper right corner. I then straightened the pic and corrected the distortion using NX2. Hope this pic is a bit better.

    Thanks again,
    glenn
