Well, not really, but they do have some selling points. Keep reading...

I am desparately trying to find a digital download solution for the upcoming Baja 500 race. Someone over at dpreview suggested dotphoto, so I gave them a try. The experience of wading my way through the "user friendly" bs made me appreciate smugmug even more. They did have a few features that I liked. Here's a rundown of them:

  • Digital Downloads for both screen and print resolutions
  • The number of rows and columns of thumbnails are customizable
  • Back Printing Options: They have two lines of text. On each, you can choose from 'Photo Title', 'Photo Title & date/time', 'date/time' or custom. Hmm...I would want file name, but maybe the title defaults to filename.
  • They have some creative page layouts, including pages like 'elegant', but with the thumbnails in an iframe so that the user can scroll through more, bigger thumbnails.
  • Three Sizes for the watermark
One place where dotphoto really shines is with photographic enhancements. You SLACKERS at smugmug have got to get your asses in gear and CATCH UP.

It took me just two clicks to go from this.................................to this!!!

    Crappy Don?
But Mommy's going to love the pseudo child drawings on top of a washed-out discolored puppy.

I really couldn't believe that they had six to eight buttons with different "color effects". I can't imagine anybody in their right mind (color blind people excepted) that would choose to have this done to any photo. It is this kind of thing that makes you wonder who is working behind the scenes making all the decisions.
