what about doing a shot like this without the break in the picture and instead have him moving his
head like he's shaking it in disbelief with a slow shutter? Just a thought. Hope that helps some.

Thanks for the reply! It's actually shot into some mirrors which causes the break, I'll give that try. Should be easy because it's a slow shutter speed anyway with only red back light.
I like this one better. The horizontal line is still a bit jarring, but much much better than the first version, especially across the actual face.
One other thought is that the treatment across the shoulders looks kind of like teeth - if that's the effect you want then great, but if not... just thought I'd point it out
