I should have posted this in my Arches pre-shoot thread, but I didn't notice it until afterwards.

Night time at Elephant Rock in the Needles area of Canyon Lands, Utah. A 30 second exposure (ISO800, F2.8) captured both the moon-lit rocks, as well as the stars as shown. All natural light.

    Super shot Aaron. iloveyou.gif

Please explain why Joel's sky is blue and yours is black. I assume he had a longer exposure. Were there any other differences?

Just saw the second sentence. You used light beams on the rocks and hence a shorter exposure and the black sky....yes?

That's my guess, and I agree. It's a real nice shot!

Here's another one from the same night. Damn moon just wouldn't stay still. rolleyes1.gif

Beats me. ne_nau.gif Found it on my camera just the way you see it. I've since made a mental note not to shoot night-sky shots after a couple of beers though. rolleyes1.gif

Much more realistic capture. I was hoping for one like this.

    All these shots are amazing!

I really wanted to try at capturing some stars but I never seemed to be able to wake up early enough (surprising how quickly things lit up) or stay up late enough. Guess I'll just have to go back.

Actually these were taken by us in the Needles District of Canyonlands NP from about 6:30pm MDT onward. Even the Elephant Hill shots were about 8:30pm MDT. We went there to grab sunset, scope out the area for a sunrise shoot and then just kept shooting. As a photographer, it is the nice thing about shooting this time of the year - late sunrise, early sunset.

And that is the moon behind the mesa, not Aperature's 18,000,000 candlepower light :-)
