Well I finally rigged up the low monopod flash set up as described by RWells. Below is a photo I just pulled off the PP line. (PP=minor crop, noise reduction mild burn to the face). I shot over 500 pics tonight with this technique and at first look I cannot find any shots that have red or ghost eyes.... I can't tell you how happy this makes me. I am a convert!!
One modification: Instead of using the superclamp, I rigged my flash to my monopod using about $10 worth of parts from Home Depot (L-Bracket w/holes, 2 adjustable hose clamps and a piece of rubber innertube to pad my monopod.
Setup: Canon 1DM3, 300mm/f2.8/monopod with low mount flash
EXIF: ISO3200, F4, 1/300 and in-camera noise reduction on. Flash set to 2nd curtain, and +2/3
