Sometime ago someone posted about a Gary Fong Cloud knockoff that he was pretty pleased with. It was considerably less $$$ then the original GF. I am interesed in this diffuser. I have the GF clear and although it works prettywell I don't know if it is worth what GF charges. Any information on this knockoff would be appreciated.

    Lambency flash diffuser

I should add that I use a number of flash modifiers for weddings and events, only one of which is commercial:

Demb Flip-it: This is a very small, lightweight and versatile adaptation of the bounce card. It is often misunderstood and therefore dismissed, but with a very little bit of practice and experience it is very useful.

Better Bounce Card: Terribly simple , lightweight and cheap to construct, this little device is gaining in support, and for good reason, "it works".

Scoop reflector: I love this device everytime I use it. Works especially well with high ceilings or dark ceilings and walls. I made a prototype and then 3 that I take and each cost less than 2 dollars.

for giggles i picked up a knockoff lightsphere on ebay last year. it's clear that there's a definite fit and finish difference between the knockoff and the gf product. the knockoff had much thicker "grips" which made getting it on the flash head a pain at times; although this did mean a slightly better grip on the flash head as well. upon looking back at it i noticed that the translucent lid is no longer as white as it was; in fact there's some really faint yellowing.

that being said, i too doubt that the lightspheres are worth their price; especially since i've gone back to my trusty old card-bounce techniques. having started out w/ film years and years ago, i bounced light using an index card; now i use the pull-out cards and wonder why i ever wasted my time (and money) on all these other goofy products. headscratch.gif

Yeah the trusty old index cards. The only diffuser I have is the omnibounce or a homemade bounce card made from photopaper and, a rubberband. And I still sometimes use an index card, old habits are hard to break.
    I shoot therefore Iam.

I call mine the fun-foam diffuser. But for the price, you really can't find a better diffuser. I swear by mine (two of 'em, actually).

I actually do own a Gary Fong Lightsphere and I LOVE it. I've tried notecards but I really like the results I get with my lightsphere.

i've been using a LightSphere PJII for the past couple of years or so and love it. Not only is it a diffuser but it's also a conversational piece, people always ask me what it does and if it's really made of cup noodles container. :)
