    John,

What Camera and Lens were you using? It is extremely difficult to get the action stopped in most High School gyms. They are like dungeons. You did great on getting the action and the faces. Your WB looks good but your focus is a little off. Volleyball is difficult to photograph because of the lighting and the speed. I shoot at 6400 ISO and around 640 shutter speed and still get blurred photos. That ball is moving and blurred but if I can get a clear photo of the player I consider the shot a success.

WB is good, noise levels good and decent action but focus is a bit off.

I shot these with a Canon 1D MarkIII and either a 400 2.8/70-200 2.8/or 135 f2. I am still new to VB so experimenting alot with where to shoot from, what SS works etc. These were all ISO 3200 and 1/400 @f2.8. I'll try ISO 6400 next time to get teh SS up and also figure how I am missing the focus. Thanks very much for your comments.

Thanks John. I'll be working on nailing the focus next time out.

1/3200 maybe slightly higher is good.
    1/500 ok, 1/640 is good
    f2.8

put the focus point squarely on upper body of subject, use continuous hs shooting,, do not know what canon calls it, burst mode. 3 maybe 4 shots will give good results.
timing of jumps is essential, wait until you see them get ready to jump.

photos are ok, getting sharp is a little tough on first shot, then on nikon focus seems to kick in. just stay with your subject until action is finished.

keep on shooting, see you soon.
