Hi folks, made it back home to Australia yesterday after 3 weeks in USA.
Thanks to April for putting up with me, and also a big thank you to Andrew and Kathy for being such great Pre-Shoot Travel Buddies for me and April.
As many of you know I had a Canon 40D converted to Infrared by maxmax.com in USA pre to the shoot.
So keep in mind that I have only owned this camera for 3 weeks,
and my editing skills are not the best, but I try
The lens I used in 99% of my IR Shots was the Tamron 24-135mm,
and I must say I am very very pleased with the results I have gotten.
All photos taken hand held, and I am hooked on IR now :rofl
Enjoy :thumb ..... Skippy

Which IR service at MaxMax did you select for the 40D?

I love #4 the most. Enjoy your new toy. I know April's pictures last year got me hooked

Hi David I chose the 715nm Filter because I wanted to be able to do False Colour if I wanted to, I hope to improve more on my editing skills

Image number #4 was taken while it was still Dark.
This is a Sunrise shot, which I thought would not turn out.
I too was surprised and delighted that it did turn out.
April got me hooked too, and now I have my own so I can play all I like
Thanks for all your help Dan, your a good teacher .... Skippy

Some monthes ago I wanted to turn a 350 D I had - sold now - into IR.
I can see you did it with the715 nm filter and the results are ... amazing, exceptional, a beauty !
Wow factor ! Wow factor ! :D:D
I can think (now and again) in getting a camera and make that transformation ...
You did very well showing us what you have done. Thank you.
These are the best and niciest IR photos I have ever seen.
I am excited looking at these pictures ...wink

Thank you Antonio, I was a little worried when the camera wasn't at April's when I arrived in USA, it showed up 2 days before we headed off to the pre-shoot.
Best way to learn is by trial and error, and that's exactly what I did.
I have learnt to understand the compensation on my camera, and to look at the Histogram.
A little tuition on the side from Daniel is making a big difference to me for editing..... I am keen to learn to do better.
IR is really a lot of fun, and I thrilled with the results I am getting.
Thanks for looking Antonio ... Skippy

These are stunning, I think you have done a wonderful job seeing and using IR to it fullest, in what has to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and certainly one of my favorite places.
Looking forward to your next series, again, Truly Well Done!!!
Kindest Regards,

I do love the one with the mega godbeams shooting out from behind the tree. Seems like you're getting the hang of this camera without a problem.
It was great to see you although we didn't really get to shoot at the same time. I hear you had a great pre-shootout and post-shootout, too, in true Skippy-style.
See you soon I hope!

Hi there Stef, sorry I didn't get to spend really anytime with you at all on this shoot .... ohhhhhh well least I did get to say hi a couple of times
The Mega Godbeams shot actually surprised me because I didn't think IR would pick up that sort of light so early in the morning it was the only bit of light in the sky, and it would have been only like 6.00 or 6.30am when I took it...... I was really pleased with it too.
I have heaps more IR's to go through, I really do enjoy it.
Thanks for looking Stef, and it was nice to meet you again.
Take Care .... Skippy

Thanks James, I am very happy with the Canon 40D paired with the Tamron 24-135mm, it's a very sharp lens, and I can clearly see the difference between using the 10-22mm and the Tamron.
I'm glad I didn't decide to have the 40D calibrated to take the 10-22mm.
Thanks for looking .... Skippy

Hi there Cuong, glad I got to meet you on the trip, I think the night of the dinner was the one and only time I saw you.
Funny how that worked out during this trip, there was so many people there, but rarely did we see everyone together.
This is the first camera I have had converted to Infrared,
took me months to decide which camera to convert,
I had it down to 3 cameras in the weeks before the Shoot.
After talking to more people who have had camera's converted,
and some more feedback from Dan at maxmax.com I finally made my decision.
Hope you had a great time in UTAH, it was my first major outing since I broke my ribs and I coped far better than I thought I would.
Thanks for commenting Cuong .... Skippy

Thank you Kitvan, hopefully I will improve some more as I learn more about post processing these images and am more familiar with what I see on the back of my camera and histogram.
Was a lot of fun, so much so that I hardly took any colour shots during the trip when needed I just used my little Canon PowerShot SD870iS,
and kept shooting in IR ... I think I'm hooked big time hehehe!

Thanks Aaron, I went out shooting with Sam (aka on Dgrin as Sam)
when I first arrived in San Jose.
On the way back to the car I took 2 shots of a toilet, and Sam was looking at me as if I had 2 heads, and told me it was a toilet.
I says no it's not, it's a little house on the prairie.
Though I was speaking English, I could tell by the look on his face,
that he just could not understand why I would want a shot of an outdoor toilet (outhouse)
I'm sure he thought I was a little odd taking the shot, but when I showed him what it looked like in Infrared, he too was surprised at the transformation
I had a great time on the shoot, more so with this new Camera because it just came in so handy.......thanks for looking Aaron

Tom
Nice to have met you on the shootout and glad to see you had so much fun with the IR. The whole series looks great.
I messed around with that same shot in #3 and didn't come anywhere close to the awesome shot you got with it.
Keep up the good work and keep 'em coming.

Hi Tom, I was sucked in straight off the bat on my first outing with the IR Camera.
I went out with Sam for the day, it took me a while to figure out the compensation you have to apply, but I got far more keepers in IR than I did in colour for the entire trip........ probably that was because I was so hooked on IR I hardly shot any Colour Images
Glad you enjoyed them, I need to improve on my editing ... Skippy

You have really demonstrated how IR can cut through the atmospheric haze and water vapor. Very nice indeed.

Things look so different in IR, often a shot you would not take in Colour looks pretty darn cool when shot in IR, I'm very pleased with what I captured during this trip.
Thanks for looking and it was nice to meet you too ... Skippy

Hey there Jim, it was so nice to catch up with you and Kathy again.
You knocked that chocolate off yet?
Ohhhh I had a ball shooting IR this trip.
I am more than pleased with the combo of Canon 40D and Tamron 24-135mm, they worked very well with each other.
The sharpness of that Tamron is amazing, and for a walk around lens it is very usable indeed, I rarely took it off the camera.
It's ability to cut through the haze was very clear to me at The Grand Canyon, it's quite amazing how it works.
Thanks for looking hope Kathy is doing good after her fall in UTAH.
Say hi to her for me wont you ... Skippy
