I have my domain name (www.southernmainedigital.com) registered with Omnis Networks (www.omnis.com) and have follwed the tutorial on setting it up so it will refer to my smugmug site, but I cannot get it to work.

Can someone who is familiar with thi please walk me through it?

Thanks!!

I clicked on your link and it seemed to work - although it did still have smugmug in the URL. Are you doing url forwarding or what? Did you follow your provider's tutorial or the smugmug/dgrin tutorial?

I'm new here - but I do have some networking experience.

I am the domain guru for SmugMug and Kalrog is correct. It appears you have the domain forwarded to your SmugMug account. That will cause you problems.

The domain must be setup using the following.

Turn off any forwards or redirects.
Set a www CNAME and point it at domains.smugmug.com
Set an @ A record and point it at 208.79.45.23

You may have to edit or delete any existing records in order to make your changes. The domains.smugmug.com is exactly what needs to be entered. DO NOT use yournickname.smugmug.com as you did with the forward. It will not work.

Once the domain resolves correctly and points to the SmugMug homepage, you can go to your SmugMug control panel and enter the custom domain on the settings tab. That is all there is too it. If you have problems, please let me know.

Thank Doc. I had it set up to forward for the time-being, even though I know it was not advised, until I could get this thing figured out so I didn't lose business.

I tried setting it up once as described in the tutorial and it did not work. After several tries, I finally got it to go to my site, but my e-mail did not work. I will try this with the exact information you gave me and see what I get.

Will my e-mail (i.e. heather@southernmainedigital.com) still work once I set this up?

    Thanks for your help!

It should. That is the beauty of the DNS CNAME setup. The emails are pointed to one server while your web requests are pointed to your SmugMug account. The problem is making sure that your email settings are correct. You will need to ask your email provider and domain host how to set that up. I do not know the exact settings for you configation. They are all different.
