What size from SM will work as an avatar?

This I hope is an easy one.

I have a pic of myself in SM. I know how to get a link to the PIC at different sizes.

What size would work for my avatar? I don't want to have to download the image, and edit the size in some program when it's already on SM.

Yeah, kinda lazy I guess. Kinda not. I don't have a graphics program on the computer I'm using ATM.

Avatars are tiny. From the Edit Avatar page here in dgrin: The maximum size of your custom image is 80 by 80 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller).

Looks like even the small thumbnails on Smugmug are 100x100 pixels - try googling for an online image resizer.

Profile Pics must be 80x80 and under 19.5kb.

If you have your pic on Smuggy, then use
    http://www.smugmug.com/help/custom-photo-sizes

    here's the 100px thumbnail size

If you do it in Photoshop, fine, just use "Save For Web" :D

Please note that your avatar image size can be 80x80 pixels or 19.5KB. Which ever of the two is smaller.

This bites people on occasion--they've gone to the trouble of resizing their images to match the pixel requirement but the image size is too big and don't understand why it won't upload thumb.gif

Correct me if I'm wrong (again), but doesn't that mean the avatar image needs to be 80x80 and less than 19,5 kB?

This is exactly why it's confusing lol3.gif

If it's 80x80 and 19.5, you should be able to post it. If it's 79x79 and 19.6KB, 79x79 is the smaller dimension and you could not post. Make sense?

It does work but it doesn't.

    Here is the link

    http://www.biggstudios.com/photos/357265178_hd7tp-80x80.jpg

It's 80x80. If I put that link into the avatar URL box it says it's invalid. I've even tried 20x20, 60x60, etc. However if I visit the link it works fine. And if I download the image its only 3.31KB. Much smaller than the stated 19KB max.

So my guess is the avatar URL box has another unlisted limitation, maybe link length or characters in the link?

Anyways, it's easy enough to just upload the picture I downloaded, but maybe dgrin should also tell users about the other limitation.
